FAQ

If you're wondering what on earth RREAL stands for (yes it's an acronym and yes we can spell), what it is that we do and what this smartphone app is all about scroll on down to find out!

  • What does RREAL stand for?
RREAL is an acronym that stands for Rights and Responsibilities Education through Alternative Learning.
  • What is RREAL Talk?
RREAL Talk is a smart phone app that we are currently in the process of developing, with the support of the National Children's and Youth Law Centre (NCYLC), that aims to provide young people and those who work with them access to relevant and relatable legal information, as well as connect them with youth-focused services that can assist them. Please contact us at rrealteam@gmail.com or use the contact form below if you are interested in finding out more!
  • What is your funding model?
We are largely dependent on external funding but we are in the process of developing a self-sustaining funding model. We are the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) after being named a finalist in FYA's Young Social Pioneers Program. We are using this seed funding to build a minimum viable product of our smartphone app, RREAL Talk.
  • How can I get involved?
Currently RREAL is run entirely by a small team of volunteers. If you'd like to get involved, or think you have some ideas that we should probably hear about, please contact us to let us know!
  • Do you partner with other organisations?
Yes! We are currently seeking partnerships with community legal centres, universities and other organisations that provide services to young people in Australia. At RREAL, we are recognise that a lot of incredible service providers that work with young people already exist in Australia. This recognition is reflected in our stated commitment of building on and complimenting, not replicating or trying to replace existing services.
  • Why young people?
Young peoples' lives intersect with the legal system in a myriad of ways, yet 14 to 25 year olds are the age group the least likely to seek the assistance of professional legal services in Australia. There are a variety of obstacles that stand in the way of young people accessing legal and other services. A lot of young people are in the dark about the existence of these services, others believe the cost of seeing a lawyer is prohibitive, and for some, the thought of picking up the phone and contacting a community legal centre is simply too intimidating. One of RREAL's primary goals is to help bridge the gap between young people and service providers.
