Our Story
We are lawyers and law students who are passionate about providing access to justice. The idea for RREAL was first conceived through a conversation at a snowboard camp for at-risk youth, between one of the school teachers on that camp and a volunteer snowboard instructor who also happened to be a law student. We saw an opportunity for young people to have conversations about their rights and responsibilities under the law and RREAL was born.

Since 2014, RREAL has connected university students with at-risk youth to deliver face-to-face interactive workshops on legal rights and responsibilities. To do this RREAL has worked with young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

RREAL's mission is to enhance access to justice for young people. Young people are impacted by the law every single day yet those aged 14-25 are the least likely to seek legal advice. We also know that 95% of this group own a smartphone and the vast majority of disadvantaged young Australians access the internet on a mobile device.
That's why we are creating RREAL Talk, a smart phone app that:
-
encourages young people to do a legal health check so they can recognise legal problems they may not know they have
-
empowers young people and those who work with them with relevant and relatable legal information and
-
connects young people to legal services that can help them

RREAL was recently selected as the winner of the education stream of the Young Social Pioneer's Program run by the Foundation for Young Australians. We received seed funding that we are using to build a minimum viable product for RREAL Talk. This will allow us to work with young people to create a solution that meets their needs.
